Should I bother to use a reverse phone internet service for a prank call?

A difficult question and one that you really have to answer on your own, but how badly do you need to know who owns that number?

If you have been receiving nuisance calls then you can just report them to the police and let them take care of it. If you trust them to pursue it then that should be the matter resolved. If you really want to be certain that someone is going to take action then you need to get in touch with their phone provider. The police may not be able to do anything unless threats are made, but the phone company should be able to do much more and it could lead to the person making the calls being cut off or worse.

If you decide to go down that route and call their phone provider then you need to use a reverse phone lookup service as without those websites there is no way of knowing who they are with (unless you phone their voicemail and they haven’t changed their message then sometimes you can tell from that). So the best option is really to use one of these sites and dig up the service provider and the details of their name and address.

The police will be able to do a lot more if they already have the name and address as you have provided it, then just to make sure go to the phone company too.

That is a double-whammy that ensures the person gets into trouble. Even that doesn’t guarantee that they will stop, it depends on the person and the reasons behind it - but having their name gives you an advantage and if you let them know you are aware it is them then most people should get the picture and it will not seem so ‘fun’ when you know who it is.
