Think You Could Have Genital Warts?

If you’ve discovered fleshy colored or grey lumps around your genitalia or anal regions, you could have contracted genital warts. This is what we think you should now do.

Firstly, it’s imperative that you are looked at by your physician. They will inspect the area where the warts have been found as well as the other genital regions, such as your vulva, anus, perineum, cervix, vagina, penis or urethra. If need be, they could also check out your nose, eyes, larynx and mouth.

Once the doctor has confirmed genital warts, they can be treated in several ways, depending on your circumstances. They may disappear on their own without treatment but they may also remain unchanged or even get larger. The doctor may be able to freeze the warts, and then remove the tissue surgically or with heat. He or she may choose instead to prescribe creams for you to apply at home. Follow the directions carefully.

Unfortunately, removing warts does not cure the cause of genital warts, which is the human papillomavirus (HPV).  HPV will remain in your body; however, it may remain dormant and not cause you any problems in the future.

Genital warts are an embarrassing problem but they rarely lead to any more serious problems, such as cancer. However, it is important that your partners know about your diagnosis. If you or your partner is pregnant or hoping to become pregnant, it is important to let your doctor know to avoid passing the virus on to the baby. Treatment for genital warts may result in birth defects.

If you have genital warts, rest assured that they are readily treatable and help is as close as your doctor’s office.
